Critical Thinking: The Nature of Change (105 points)

In this module, we learned that everything is in a state of constant change. This is a challenge of strategic management, as the industry environment is driven by technology, consumer needs, politics, economic conditions, and many other influences. Consider these influences as you select one of the following cases to analyze.

Eastman Kodak’s Quest for a Digital Future (R. M. Grant, Contemporary Strategy Analysis: Text and Cases, 10th ed., Wiley, 2019) (page 475)

OR

New York Times: Adapting to the Digital Revolution (R. M. Grant, Contemporary Strategy Analysis: Text and Cases, 10th ed., Wiley, 2019) (page 492)

Once you have selected your case, read Chapter 8 (page 189) and the assigned reading. Remember that a case study is a puzzle to be solved, so before reading and answering the specific case questions, develop your proposed solution by following these five steps:

1. Read the case study to identify the key issues and underlying issues. These issues are the principles and concepts of the course area which apply to the situation described in the case study.

2. Record the facts from the case study which are relevant to the principles and concepts of the course area issues. The case may have extraneous information not relevant to the current course area. Your ability to differentiate between relevant and irrelevant information is an important aspect of case analysis, as it will inform the focus of your answers.

3. Describe in some detail the actions that would address or correct the situation.

4. Consider how you would support your solution with examples from experience or current real-life examples or cases from textbooks.

5. Complete this initial analysis and then read the discussion questions. Typically, you will already have the answers to the questions but with a broader consideration. At this point, you can add the details and/or analytical tools required to solve the case.

Case Study Questions:

1. What is the nature and source of organizational inertia for the company? Detail the drivers of industry evolution for this company.

2. What were the challenges of technological change (especially when it was a “disruptive technology” and embodied “architectural innovation”)?

3. Discuss the difficulties the company had in developing new organizational capabilities.

4. Evaluate and recommend different approaches to managing strategic change including organizational ambidexterity, scenarios, crisis management, capability development, dynamic capabilities, and knowledge management.

Your well-written paper should meet the following requirements:

  • Be 6 to 7 pages in length, which does not include the required title and reference pages, which are never a part of the content minimum requirements.
  • Use Saudi Electronic University academic writing standards and APA style guidelines.
  • Support your submission with course material concepts, principles, and theories from the textbook and at least two scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles unless the assignment calls for more.
  • final communications strategy

    Final Communications Strategy

    Communications Strategy

    • Complete one final plan for your team.
    • You don’t need to make a completely new plan; just use what you’ve already done as individuals to form one plan.
    • Just make sure all components are aligned (i.e., you’ve selected stakeholders based on your situation analysis, you developed your communications objectives based on hour stakeholder analysis, your tactics are designed to achieve your objectives, etc.).

At the end of your plan,
add a 300-500 word thought process behind the design of the e-newsletter and the video that will support the content of your plan.

    The theme I chose is:

Some modern scholars argue that the history of the ancient and medieval world is only half-written as half the population has often been ignored or “written out” of history. Over the last few generations, much has been done to correct this gap in our collective knowledge of the past; women clearly played essential roles throughout ancient and medieval societies. Your task is to research what roles women played and how their presence was conceptualized and addressed in anywhere from two to three different cultures/civilizations and to determine the scope of these roles and the ways in which women of all ages were portrayed and/or portrayed themselves. From this research, devise a thesis that will address your findings and better explain the “missing half” of our past.

A secondary source needs to be chosen using these links, but has to be a peer reviewed article about the theme, not a book.

Capture a spam Email message. View the Email header and copy the information to your assignment document. Only one email is necessary. You do not need a reference for this assignment. You only need to show the header information. No narrative is necessary.

Showing the Email itself is not sufficient. You need to show the header information embedded in the message metadata. Search the Internet if you need help capturing the header information. Points will be deducted if the header information is not present in the assignment. An image of the message is not sufficient. A narrative is acceptable, but header information must be presented.

    New Ideas Versus Old Beliefs

The thinkers of the Enlightenment prized individual reason over authority. They questioned foundations of religion, morality, and government. Everything was being re-examined and re-evaluated in the light of reason. This outlook led to many clashes with accepted beliefs and the ruling powers who upheld them.

Christian faith, for example, was based largely on trust in the Bible as God’s word. Enlightenment thinkers believed that humans were perfectly able to discover truth for themselves. Some of them even questioned the existence of God. Others sought a “natural religion” based on reason. To these thinkers, the order in the universe was proof enough of an intelligent Creator. They believed that there was no need to base belief in God on revelations in holy books. Similarly, they maintained that ideas about right and wrong should be based on rational insight, not on the teachings of religious authorities. Enlightenment thinkers also criticized accepted ideas about government. Some questioned the long-held belief that God gave monarchs the right to rule. Many insisted that governments must respect individual rights. Toward the end of the 18th century, these ideas played a major role in revolutions in both America and France.

    PROMT

Response Prompt: Discuss one of the conflicts that arose from the advent of Enlightenment thinking and views, such as the clash between reason and faith, or authority and individual rights, church and state, etc. Is this still a conflict today? Explain in what manner it continues to be a conflict, or how it has been resolved in contemporary times. Cite specific examples to support your views.

    Key Terms

    • scientific method: A body of techniques, first articulated by Bacon, for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge based on empirical or measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning. The Oxford Dictionaries Online define it as “a systematic observation, measurement, and experiment, and the formulation, testing, and modification of hypotheses.”
    • empiricism: A theory that states that knowledge comes only or primarily from sensory experience. One of several views of epistemology, the study of human knowledge, along with rationalism and skepticism, it emphasizes the role of experience and evidence (especially sensory experience), in the formation of ideas, over the notion of innate ideas or traditions.
    • Encyclopédie: A general encyclopedia published in France between 1751 and 1772, with later supplements, revised editions, and translations. It had many writers and was edited by Denis Diderot, and, until 1759, co-edited by Jean le Rond d’Alembert.
It is the most famous for representing the thought of the Enlightenment.
    • Legal rights: The rights bestowed onto a person by a given legal system (i.e., rights that can be modified, repealed, and restrained by human laws).
    • Natural rights: The rights that are not dependent on the laws, customs, or beliefs of any particular culture or government, and are therefore universal and inalienable (i.e., rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws). Some, yet not all, see them as synonymous with human rights.
    • natural law: A philosophy that certain rights or values are inherent by virtue of human nature, and can be universally understood through human reason. Historically, it refers to the use of reason to analyze both social and personal human nature in order to deduce binding rules of moral behavior. The law of nature, like nature itself, is universal.
    • social contract theory: In moral and political philosophy, a theory or model originating during the Age of Enlightenment that typically addresses the questions of the origin of society and the legitimacy of the authority of the state over the individual. It typically posits that individuals have consented, either explicitly or tacitly, to surrender some of their freedoms and submit to the authority of the ruler or magistrate (or to the decision of a majority), in exchange for protection of their remaining rights.

    discussion b 1

This free verse poem is called “Blessing for the Longest Night” by Jan Richardson:

    https://www.patheos.com/blogs/seasonsofthechurch/2…

The occasion of the poem is the night of the winter solstice, which is always near the end of the calendar year.

One year’s end and another one’s start is an important marker of time for many of us. Our language marks time, too. In sentences, verbs mark the passing of time–that is why they’re called “past,” “present,” and “future” tense.

A “progressive” form of past, present, or future tense verb helps to communicate notions of our actions in time. A progressive verb shows an ongoing action that is happening at some point: past, present, or future.

    Some examples to explain it:

“I was typing” – “was typing” is past progressive because it happened sometime before now “I am typing” – “am typing” is present progressive because it”s happening right now “I will be typing” – “will be typing” is future progressive because it describes something that will be ongoing action later.

Pick out some of the verbs (action words) that end in -ing in Richardson”s poem. List them, then tell us what observations you can make about what they have in common or the story they tell when you see them in a row. What tone or “feeling” do you get from your list?

Finally, in “Blessing for the Longest Night,” how does Richardson use progressive verbs to establish the poem’s tone?
