Dodge Professor Emeritus of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University. In The Crisis of Islam, Lewis explains the reasons for Islamic fundamentalists’ rejection of the West, which includes violence against Western countries and interests, and most especially violence against “impious” Muslim rulers who have adopted “Western” ways.
