Consider an appointment system at a medical clinic, where a patient can request to make an appointment to see a certain doctor at a specific time. Additionally, a doctor can use that system to record the timings where he would be available to see his patients. A receptionist can print schedule information for a specific day at that clinic.

In one use scenario, a patient will make a request with the receptionist regarding an appointment with the doctor. The receptionist will look up the patient to see if the patient has any bills to be paid. The receptionist will then ask the patient whether he or she wants to set up a new appointment, cancel an existing appointment, or to change an existing appointment. If the patient wants to create a new appointment, the receptionist asks the patient for some suggested appointment times, which the receptionist matches against potential times available. The receptionist finally creates a new appointment.

In another scenario, a patient simply wants to cancel an appointment. In this case, the receptionist looks up the patient and checks to see if the patient has any bills to be paid. The receptionist then asks the patient for the time of the appointment to be canceled. Finally, the receptionist cancels the appointment.

Using these scenarios, complete the following steps:

  • Step 1: Develop a number of scenarios (at least 5), for the following user scenarios:
    • Existing Patient Makes New Appointment (see scenario details above)
    • Existing Patient Cancels Appointment (see scenario details above)
  • Step 2: Interface Structure Design
    • The interface structure defines the basic components of the interface and how they work together to provide functionality to users.
    • A WND (Window Navigation Diagram) is used to show how all the screens, forms, and reports used by the system are related and how the user moves from one to another.
    • In a WND, each state in which the user interface may be is represented as a box. Furthermore, a box typically corresponds to a user interface component, such as a window, form, button, or report.
    • Figure 10-4 on p. 375 of the text shows a sample WND. Create a WND based on the need need to build the following GUI components for the appointment system:
      • A client menu
      • “Add Client” form: Used to add a new client/patient to the system
      • “Find Client” form: Used to find an existing client/patient in the system
      • “Client List” report: Used to issue a report of the existing clients in the system
      • “Client Information” report: Used to issue a report including information about a specific client
  • Step 3: Sketch (using any of the diagramming resources below ) the user interface components that you identified from Step 2
    • “Add Client” form: Think of what fields would be needed for every client
    • “Find Client” form: Think of what fields would be needed to search for a specific event
    • “Client List” report: Think of what fields need to be included in that report
    • “Client Information” report: Think of what fields need to be included in that report

Time Value of Money Assignment

Resource & Review

The time value of money is one of the most important concepts in finance. So many decisions are made based upon this concept. This assignment provides an opportunity for learning and practicing some of the basic time value of money formulas.

The time value of money is based upon the premise that a dollar today is not worth the same as a dollar in the future or in the past.

The following examples use a HP-12C financial calculator. You might have to modify for different calculators. However, you can get the same answer by using tables or Excel.

Note: Excel is required for this assignment. There are two Excel help files provided for your convenience. Please use the attached spreadsheet provide by my instructor.

  • If you put $500 in a savings account today at 12% interest, what will it be worth in 5 years?
  • Try the same problem compounding interest on a quarterly basis.
  • You want $10,000 in your account at the end of 10 years. What do you have to put into your account today in order to achieve your goal if your account pays 8% interest?
  • Let’s try the number 3. Take your answer (PV), FV, and n — and try to solve for i. You should get the answer of 8.
  • If you put $500 in a savings account at the end of each year at 12% interest, what will it be worth in 5 years?
  • If you put $10,000 in your account at the end of every year for 10 years, what is it worth now if your account pays 8% interest?

Hint: This is a future value problem.

Calculator keystrokes: 500 press PV

12 press i

5 press n

to solve ___ press FV

Hint: This is a present value problem.

Calculator keystrokes: 10,000 press FV

8 press i

10 press n

to solve ___ press PV

Another Hint: Be sure to clear everything out of financial memory before continuing. (f key, then the fin key; note the clx key only clears the register, not the memory.)

Hint: When solving for i or n, be sure to enter either the FV or the PV as a negative or you will get an error.

With the above items, we have computed two of the four basic time value of money problems—future value and present value.

The next two problems are similar—they are called annuities. In a story problem, it is easy to detect an annuity. You should look for the words “each” or “every.” See if you can detect them in problems 5 and 6, which are similar to Problems 1 through 4.

Hint: This is a future value of an annuity problem.

Calculator keystrokes: 500 press PMT

12 press i

5 press n

to solve ___ press FV

Hint: This is a present value of an annuity problem.

Calculator keystrokes: 10,000 press PMT

8 press i

10 press n

to solve ___ press PV

There are different ways to solve for these types of problems.

Calculation Analysis

The above examples were given in a calculator format, where it is easy to see what is required. Now, calculate the above 6 items in Microsoft Excel.

Note: Use the two Excel help files to assist you in understanding the Time Value of Money Process.

Written Analysis

Answer the following questions in the Excel Spreadsheet after completing the computations:

  • Why is the time value of money concept important to a nonprofit’s fiscal health?
  • If you were the executive director of a small nonprofit offering programmatic technical assistance to other nonprofits, when would you use cost-benefit analysis?

discussion board post real estate law 5

Chapter 6-Contracts (Valid Contract v. Real Estate Contract)

For a valid contract, in general, to exist there must be 3 elements present: 1) offer (by one party to another party; 2) acceptance (of the non-offering party); and 3) consideration (some time of monetary value or other type of value that will be exchanged for the inducement of the parties to contract). Conversely, a real estate contract requires at least 5 elements for a valid real estate contract to exist: 1) legal capacity of the parties; 2) mutual agreement; 3) consideration; 4) lawful purpose; and 5) written agreement. You should ensure that you understand the difference/nuance between a contract in general and a real estate contract.

In the case of a contract in general, all requirements must be present and there is no way to salvage the contract if all 3 requirements are not present. E.g. if there is an offer by Allen to contract to buy widgets from Barry for $30 and Barry decides that he will only sell his widgets if Allen pays $35, then there is no contract. Barry’s response of $35 for sale of his widgets acts as a counteroffer in that scenario. However, if Allen agrees to pay the $35 and Barry accepts, then a new contract has been entered into between the parties.

Conversely, if all 5 requirements of a real estate contract are not present; the contract to purchase real estate is invalid and unenforceable. Discuss whether or not there is any way to salvage the real estate contract that does not have all 5 requirements present. You will need to go to your Chapter 6 to really get into a discussion and come up with the correct answer. I’m interested in your thought process so answering by a mere yes or no will not suffice. Good luck with the discussion.

My hope for you in this discussion is for you to give some examples of situations related to these questions and to discuss why each example fits into either category. Please have some of your personal opinions in this discussion as well. Create your own answer discussing your thoughts on the questions 5 to 10 sentences

After creating your answer, I would also like you to respond your opinions to 2 students’ answers…3 to 6 sentences per response

questions 1 evaluate the three criteria for divestment according to the textbook for target canada did target canada meet each criterion explain 2 imagine you were president of target canada at the time when walmart started the price war how w

Target Canada

  • In 2012, Target expanded its business into Canada. The proximity to the U.S. as well as Canadians’ familiarity with the brand made expansion across the border seem like a natural step for the retail powerhouse. However, after only two years, Target faced $2 billion in losses and announced plans to close all of its Canadian stores. Here are some of the reasons the global expansion led to an exit decision:
  • Target was initially able to minimize its capital costs by purchasing obsolete stores from a former Canadian discount chain. While this gave Target quick and affordable access to a high number of locations, the stores were not designed for Target’s big box format. Also, the association created by locating the new Targets in outdated spaces damaged its “Expect More, Pay Less” brand reputation.
  • Target compromised quality for speed to market. The company opened 124 stores in only two years, and essential parts of the business, such as inventory planning, could not keep up with that pace. As a result, empty shelves and stock outs were an issue. This was especially disappointing for Canadian consumers, who were accustomed to seeing abundant merchandise in U.S. stores.
  • Target faced stiff competition from Walmart, which has been present in Canada since 1994. Historically, Target’s trendy and more fashionable merchandise had helped the brand distinguish itself. However, its Canadian assortment lacked these qualities, which put Target in the position of having to compete on price, which is Walmart’s sustainable competitive advantage. Walmart responded with a price war that they appear to have won.
  • Each of these factors put Target’s brand equity, one of its most precious assets, at risk, and ultimately it was left with little choice but to pull out of the market. While opportunity may still exist in the future for Target to re-enter Canada, its failed first attempt is a good lesson for companies considering expanding operations into new global regions.

Questions:

1) Evaluate the three criteria for divestment (according to the textbook) for Target Canada. Did Target Canada meet each criterion? Explain.

2) Imagine you were president of Target Canada at the time when Walmart started the price war. How would you respond to the war? Was there any way to win? Be sure to explain your answer here. Should they try to win? Explain why or why not. Please be specific in your answers.
