On Day 1, I Will …

When candidates for president are out on the campaign trail it is not uncommon to hear them state, “When I am elected President, on day one I will do … .” The candidate then gives a list of one or two executive orders that they will make on their first day in office. In other words, they will make a policy that falls within the vagueness of Article II of the U.S. Constitution or a change of how current laws are executed and thus not needing Congressional approval for such a change.

For your initial post this week, imagine you are a candidate for the White House and present to the class at least one executive action you would take on your first day serving as president. (Please Note: it is not acceptable to state that you think no action should be taken.)

Go beyond just stating what the executive order you would make is. Make an argument supporting your action. Is it a legal action? Does the president have the power to take this action without Congress? Is this really a state issue and not a federal issue? Is this executive action, in your opinion, a good idea, why or why not? Would the public be in favor of such an executive action?

The demand function for an oligopolistic market is given

by the equation, Q = 180 – 4P, where Q is quantity demanded and

P is price. The industry has one dominant firm whose marginal cost

function is: MC = 12 + .1QD, and many small firms, with a total

supply function: QS = 20 + P.

(a) Derive the demand equation for the dominant oligopoly firm.

(b) Determine the dominant oligopoly firm’s profit-maximizing output

and price.

(c) Determine the total output of the small firms.

ethical and legal issues 3

Cynthia Cooper, Coleen Rowley, and Sherron Watkins risked their jobs, health, privacy, and sanity to uncover ethical and legal violations occurring within WorldCom, Enron, and the FBI, respectively (Lacayo & Ripley, 2002). Each of these women was extraordinary in her efforts to do the right thing in the face of adversity. Though it may appear easy, many public and nonprofit leaders and managers have difficulty recognizing and adequately addressing ethical and legal issues within their organizations.

In this Discussion, you analyze ethical and legal issues related to a public or nonprofit organization. Then, you consider how you might address these issues as a leader or manager within a public or nonprofit organization.

For this Discussion, review this week’s Learning Resources. Search the Walden Library or the Internet for an article related to ethical or legal issues applicable to a public or nonprofit organization of your choosing. Consider approaches leaders and followers or employees used to address these ethical or legal issues and whether you agree with their approaches.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 a description of the ethical and/or legal issues discussed in the article. Finally, explain what approaches you might take to address these issues as a manager or leader within the public or nonprofit organization and why you chose these approaches. Be specific.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources and other current literature

issc343-discussion-response

Hello, I need to respond to the below two students discussions with a minimum of 150 words each. Below in bold is what the students are responding to. Thanks in advance.

Thanks to the advancements in wireless technologies many wireless devices have now become part of our daily life. Discuss some of the inherent characteristics of wireless communications systems which make it attractive for users.

Learning Objectives Covered

  • Explain how the major wireless technologies are used today
  • Describe various applications of wireless communications technology

You Will:

  1. List at least three inherent characteristics
  2. Explain why these are important to wireless users

Student one:

Hello classmates,

Wireless communications encompass all expects of daily life and have something to offer for all different lifestyles. Whether you’re someone who constantly needs to be connected to a Wi-Fi network or someone who just uses it when needed, you’ve definitely connected to a wireless network. The most obvious place you would connect to a wireless network is at home. Not only could you connect to download files, but you could connect your smart phone to a wireless network to manage phone calls for you. This is beneficial as, depending on your wireless speed, this could help prevent dropped calls. Our textbook gives a great example of how convenient wireless connections can be for home use; the radio transponder sending a notification to Joseph’s email. This example shows how wireless networks can improve an individuals quality of life.

In addition to wireless networks at home, most heavily used hubs contain their own wireless connection for public use. While I would recommend only connecting to public wireless networks if you absolutely have to (from a security standpoint) having the option to help greatly. Many places like airports and hospitals have their won public wireless network connection because of the difficulty cell phones have staying connected to cell towers in these places. This enables you to make or take calls when necessary.

I have my phone hooked up to a wireless network almost constantly. It ensures my calls aren’t dropped, my files will download at a healthy pace, and that the entire file will download. I also use the connection to watch videos and Netflix on my phone when I’m not on my computer. Thanks for reading my post all the way through!

Student two:

I have two wireless technologically advanced mechanisms I am so grateful to own. They are my cell phones – one for work and one for my husband, and my laptop computer for all my social endeavors, for school, and for banking.

My work cell phone allows me to connect to other employees, customers, and to emergency crews as required as a daily part of my job, while I am outside and away from a corded telephone system – which is 80% of my day. My cell phone also allows me to have the answer to most questions in the palm of my hand. I don’t drive in the country I am currently living [in], but I know exactly how to get anywhere on the islands via GOOGLE Maps. I am also able to track and send real-time flight information to individuals whose livelihoods depend upon it in order to make their businesses work. The aps on my cell phone keep me entertained, and keep my mind busy, such as tracking aircraft, ships, and small vessels, learning foreign languages, playing solitaire and scrabble and allows me to be at work and to be amused at my job at the same time. My personal cell phone allows me and my husband the capability to communicate throughout the day, as we see fit. It keeps us in communication as we do not see each other for most of the day.

My laptop is a wonderful tool for me, as I go to school and earn college degrees online. I also use my laptop to Facebook family members who live a couple thousand miles away, and I also enjoy banking online. These key uses are invaluable for me as I live remotely on an island, and away from the United States. Many people utilize the online banking systems for many reasons. I choose to use online banking because I have to. While my permanent address is in Colorado, my car is parked in New Mexico) I have to pay for parking whilst I am away), I have to pay for other things – “Amazon things”, and I have credit cards and school loans through the US that all have to be paid. I get paid in Bermuda Dollars – Pretty money, usually with painted fish or birds in bright colors, depending on the value of the bill; While the exchange rate is pinned and almost equal to that of the US dollar, NO BODY wants to be paid with a painted fish, or bird in the US! I need US Dollars in order to pay my bills and to purchase the things that I want. I can pay my bills through bank transfers and thus, online banking.

Online learning is SO popular right now, and I can see why this industry will grow in the future. People are on the move, and it is important to travel, meet people and learn new cultures. Getting an education while living one’s life is COOL! – and I highly recommend it! At the same time Facetime-ing one’s family and friends while travelling would be good so that people can stay in touch and keep up with the goings-on back home.

Being Mobile– It is important for people to live their lives while they enjoy staying connected!

Being inexpensive– Mobile devices are available for the masses. There are different cost brackets for the different customer budgets.

Being User Friendly– For the most part wireless devices are fairly easy to use. If an individual has a problem with a device, there are many opportunities for lessons and classes. There are also techies who are available to assist in getting things back in order if anything should go amuck!
