Review the article “Blow Out” from this week’s reading assignment. This article pertains to the recall of air bag products. Assume you are the manager for a large automotive company that will be using air bags in your products. What risk assessment tools will you use in order to ensure that the product being installed into your vehicles meets safety standards in order to avoid a recall? Use your course materials and outside research to generate a solid analysis on why these methods would be helpful. Your analysis should be supported by research.

Directions for obtaining the file: Login to the Grantham University library by clicking on the Resources tab from the main page. You will then log into EBSCOHost. Once you have accessed the database, simply copy and paste the title of the article and press enter to search and you should now have the file accessible to review.

The requirements below must be met for your paper to be accepted and graded:

• Write between 750 – 1,250 words (approximately 3 – 5 pages) using Microsoft Word in APA style, see example below.
• Use font size 12 and 1” margins.
• Include cover page and reference page.
• At least 80% of your paper must be original content/writing.

Epideictic rhetoric is ceremonial oratory or writing that centers on either praising or blaming an individual, artist or other entity. Aristotle tells us that epideictic rhetoric is concerned with virtue and vice and that the components” of virtue are “justice, courage, self-control, magnificence, magnanimity, liberality, gentleness, practical and speculative wisdom” or “reason”. Vice is, obviously, the opposite of those virtuous actions.

TASK: For this paper in this class, you will compose a piece of epideictic rhetoric that either praises or blames an author or character from one of our works.

• When inventing your essay, carefully consider your audience. At the TOP of your paper, I want you to identify your intended audience.
• After you have chosen your subject and intended audience, compose a paper that addresses the praise and/or blame of the subject at hand.
  • What great good (or evil) has the subject accomplished?
  • What lessons should your audience learn from this?
  • Why should we remember this character?
  • You should back up your argument with evidence from the play or story; this means you should refer to specific passages to bolster your argument. These passages should be cited properly using MLA format.

This is the basic outline for the assignment:

P1- Introduction: an ice breaker, presents the situation/ thesis at the end of the paragraph that introduces the individual who is worthy of praise or blame.

P2- Narration: provide an overview of the work(story, poem or play).

P3- Confirmation: here you either praise or blame the character for some action committed. This should be presented with evidence from the literary work.

(The Confirmation may be more than one paragraph)

P4- Refutation: counterarguments/address the fact that everyone may not agree with your opinion

P5- Conclusion: having proved that your praise or blame is correct, what can you challenge the audience to do about it? What should the audience learn from the situation?

*1st person is acceptable, but consider 1st person plural for much of it (we, our, us)

* The final paper should be a minimum of 1000 words and submitted through Blackboard

Article A

The article An Introduction to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program was published by Wendy Pollack, on Clearinghouse Community. The article goes into depth about what exactly the TANF is, what the programs does, or is suppose to do, and who the program effects. The TANF is a part of the PRWORA. It is a program for children and families that have a low source of income. The program is funded by the government. The program provides benefits for children such as providing assistance so that children are able to stay with their families and be cared for by loved ones, rather than being taken away and living in a home for those who do not come from well off families, encouraging working, job prepping, to stop the cycle of families needing assistance from government funding programs, and educating children on how influential marriage, and unexpected pregnancy is on money and income. You have to be eligible to receive TANF benefits, and not very many are eligible. The article explains bluntly that only those who are severely poor and in need may be eligible for TANF. For example, families have to include either a pregnant individual, or a child who is a minor.

Before reading the article, I assumed the TANF was for families who do not have much income, but I did not think about how specific the requirements to be eligible would be. Also, the article explains that the program provides a lot of information and education about how important it is to have a good job and not have a child unexpectedly, but only states one benefit that would help families physically. At first thought, I assumed the program would help in ways such as providing money, meals, and even some sort of transportation to work and school, but again the article talks more about education the program provides.

Article B

The article TANF Benefits Remain Low Despite Recent Increases in Some States is an article written by Ashley Burnside and Ife Floyd, on Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, that discusses the TANF attempting to do more, but still not doing much. The article goes into depth about how the TANF’s benefits have fallen 20% since the program was created. A law was passed, basically stating the government should invest in the TANF to do more physical things to help, such as providing money and jobs for families, to achieve an overall increase in the wellness of families in need, especially the children. Although these increase in benefits sound great, it still did not reach many states, and the eligibility did not change.

I didn’t really have any initial thoughts or prediction of what this article was going to be able other than the benefits reaching more families and more families being able to be eligible. The benefits listed did sound great, but what good are the benefits if it is still difficult for families to be able to receive help from the program?
