Program Specifications: Congratulations! The “Mafiosa Bank of Uncle Sal” in Miami has accepted your application for a 20 year mortgage on your first home. You put $25,000 down on a $325K house and will be borrowing $300K (three hundred thousand) from the bank at an interest rate of 4.25%. The terms of the loan state that you only make one payment per year to the bank in December for an agreed upon amount. For the very last payment (year 20), you must pay the entire remaining amount due. You now realize this is not such a great deal, but you have signed the contract and until a lawyer gets you out of it, you are stuck.

So at the end of every calendar year, several things take place:

1. The bank computes the interest based on what you currently owe.
2. The bank adds the interest to the amount due resulting in the revised amount due.
3. You make your agreed upon payment which reduces the total amount you owe.

Note: Yes, the bank computes the interest and adjusts the total amount owed before you make your payment (you know why don’t you?).

In gathering information for your lawyer, you want to demonstrate how much you will have to pay at the end of your loan period of 20 years. To do this, you have to write a program that will read a variable “amount” from the keyboard that will be the agreed upon amount to pay yearly to the bank. Your program will then print the results of the calculations for each year as follows:

Example of input/output (you must have the same wording – only the amounts will change depending upon the payment):

Program Requirements:

1. Alignment – You do not have to have the output aligned exactly as above. It should simply be neat and easy to read. You must use the exact same wording as above.
2. Constants – Your program must define the rate, duration of loan, and amount borrowed as class constants.
3. Numeric Types – The calculations should be made with variable of an appropriate type – but you should output only dollars. Use casting to do that (there are ways to print double with appropriate number of decimals – we will see that later).
4. Valid Data – You can assume the amount entered is a positive real number less than 23000.
5. Style – Be sure to follow the guidelines of good style using proper indentation, well-chosen identifiers and appropriate use of comments.

TIPS:

• Setting up your loop – In general with loops, the tricky part is the start of the loop and the end of the loop. Here obviously the result of the year 20 is *special* since the calculation is not the same as for other years. Because of this, you may want to loop for only 19 years and do the last year outside of the loop.
• Testing your program – Submitting a program that has no syntax errors is not good enough for a perfect score. You need to start testing your programs for errors. Think of all cases where it is relatively easy to check if your program works properly. F for example:
  • What happens if the agreed upon amount to pay yearly is zero dollars?
  • What happens if the amount paid yearly is one dollar? A hundred dollars? Ten-thousand dollars?

Question 1: Monumental Architecture and Sculpture

The cultures we studied this week produced architecture, earthworks, and monumental sculpture, in addition to smaller works of art. Using your course textbook locate three examples of architecture, earthworks or monumental sculpture from three different cultures listed here: Islamic, Chinese, Japanese, or the Americas.

First, completely identify each structure or sculpture you would like to discuss by listing its name, date, and location.

In a minimum of 3 well-developed paragraphs address the following questions:

1. Who created each work of architecture or sculpture? Who commissioned its creation?
2. What historical events or social or cultural influences affected the creation of each work?
3. How do the visual characteristics of each work contribute to or enhance its message or meaning?

Be sure to explain your ideas clearly and support them by discussing specific details about each work of architecture or monumental sculpture.

Question 2: The Function of Art Objects

Some of the art objects created by the cultures surveyed this week served functional roles in their society. Using your course textbook locate three such objects, one each from the following: Islamic, Asian (Chinese or Japanese), and African.

First, completely identify each object you would like to discuss by listing its name, date, and location.

In a minimum of 2 well-developed paragraphs discuss:

1. What was the function of each object at the time of its creation?
2. What historical events or social or cultural influences affected the creation of each work?
3. How do the visual characteristics of each object contribute to or enhance our understanding of its meaning?

Be sure to explain your ideas clearly and support them by discussing specific details about each work.

Part 2

Exhibition of World Art

Imagine you are a curator at your local city’s Museum of Art. You have been asked to organize a small exhibition of objects of art from the cultures of China, Japan, Africa, and the Americas; you will also showcase Islamic art. Your exhibition should include representative objects that highlight significant and essential ideas of each culture. You may plan to include actual objects in your exhibition, or photographs or models of larger structures or sculptures.

Survey your course textbook and reliable internet websites to locate two art objects from each of the following five cultures: China, Japan, Africa, the Americas, and Islam, that you would like to include in your exhibition. Your objects must date to the time period we are studying in this course (Prehistory -1300 CE). You will select a total of ten objects for display in your “Exhibition of World Art.”

Then, write a “museum label “for each object within a Microsoft Word document. The following should be on the “label” for each object:

1. A photograph of the object
2. Identifying information:
   1. Name of the artist (if known—otherwise, attribute the culture)
   2. Title of the work
   3. Date of the work
   4. Medium/materials used to create the work
   5. Current location
3. A paragraph of 4-5 sentences describing why the object is representative of its culture and is culturally significant. Briefly explain why you have selected the object for display.

Finally, in a paragraph of 8-10 sentences, write a summarizing overview of your “Exhibition of World Art,” highlighting key similarities and distinctions between the objects you have curated. Imagine that visitors to your exhibition will read this overview as they enter your “Exhibition of World Art,” and provide them with any information or context they may need to fully appreciate the objects on display.

Offer a citation of your sources for each image and the information provided as appropriate.
