As one of the fastest-emerging crime trends to spread among several nations, Human Trafficking involves violating a person’s human rights. The coercion and exploitation involved affects its various victims in many ways. People are bought or traded for sexual slavery exploitation, physical labor, and/or even body parts. The victims are usually women and children but, trends prove that human trafficking affect men and the elderly as well. Human trafficking affects the economy by, driving down the prices of unskilled labor, generates illicit monetary gains, and allows criminals to continue expanding the illegal business. While human trafficking is a continuously evolving, more can be done through cooperation among agencies and more research. In 2019, President Donald Trump declared inadequacies in the border security a national emergency. He proclaimed that many humanitarian issues were stemmed from the lack of front line defense. If additional research and resources were available on the trends in human trafficking then, Government Agencies could more effectively progress in combating human trafficking.

I feel coming back to school after being out for a few years was overall difficult. Getting back into the flow of researching, writing, and the overall class format interaction was something to get used to again. Speaking specifically on this course, the section that provided the most difficulty for me was defining and applying research methods. Understanding the different designs and how they would best conform to my paper. The reason this was so difficult is because after researching and understanding the different meanings, I realized that the were several research designs that for appropriately. In addition, I found the literature review portion of week four questionable. I never wrote a literature review, and really couldn’t understand how to synchronize other peer reviewed journals with my own. After completing the literature review, it gave me a better understanding of what the requirements are for a research paper. Breaking each section down was quite useful.

The easiest portion of this process was coming up with a topic. I have always been interested in homeland security along with border security. At a very young age I saw the affects the September 11th attacks had on my family, and at that point knew I wanted to make a difference. To be more specific, human trafficking is a crime that does not get recognized as much as others. I feel the trends of human trafficking affects our homeland and the economy. For this reason, creating the topic and question came easily.

Obtaining my masters was a choice I made to reach personal goals I created for myself. This class is ideal in achieving that goal. This was my first class at AMU on the road to getting my degree where, my goal is to obtain my Masters in Homeland Security with a concentration in Intelligence Studies. Research Methods is a good class to take first personally. This class breaks down all the intricacies of writing a good paper. It will give me underlying information necessary to move towards my future endeavors. It provided a better understanding of what to overall expect in my future classes.

Please respond with a paragraph to the following question, add citations and references:

There are many data bases I have utilized throughout my BSN program that have been very helpful in finding information about research articles. The Grand Canyon Library features the CINAHL and Medline databases that have over 4,000 journal articles and information that covers a large variety of nursing topics. I have found that the GCU library has a plethora of information that is very up to date and useful. There are certain things you must remember when using the library databases. It’s important to type in keywords about the subject you are researching rather than a sentence like you would when using Google. The GCU library offer databases that have published evidence-based articles that are great resources for research projects and meet the curriculum standard by GCU (Grand Canyon University, 2019).

The problem when using Google or internet sites are unreliable websites that may not meet the GCU requirement. Some of the research articles if you are not a member of the library, have to be purchased. Also, there are many blogs out there you can access for free, but it is hard to know who wrote the article and how legitimate is the published information. The advantage of Grand Canyon University Library resources is you can avoid these outside blogs and unreliable websites to help decrease the amount of time looking for articles.
