Strategies for Counseling Parents and Adolescents

Adolescence is a very important time in the sexual lifecycle.  Physical maturity takes place, increased social interaction occurs, and  individuals begin to explore intimacy. Parents are still a major  influence in their children’s lives and can have an impact on their  children’s emerging sexuality, but as children move into adolescence,  the influence of peers becomes increasingly strong. Therefore, as  counselors, it is important to consider how these influences intersect  with children’s and adolescents’ personal questions and experiences with  sexuality throughout their development.

To prepare for this Discussion, review the video case study in this  week’s Learning Resources. Think about strategies that you, as a  counselor, might use to help the parents in the case study effectively  communicate with their child about sex and sexuality. Also consider what  issues would be important to address and why.

With these thoughts in mind:

Your task is to write a report summarizing your research (10 pages). The writing should be original. o Methodology: key ideas, summaries, measures, analytical discussions, etc. 

• Conclusion section: analyze and summarize your findings, state your opinions, conclusions, recommendations. It is common for such a paper to suggest new ideas, critique some of the existing ideas, and propose some new directions. 

• References section: Sources and references need to be cited properly using APA format. Around 10 or more references is appropriate, some of which must be scholarly peerreviewed articles
