Applying Philosophy to Life.

Assume that you are interviewing for a position as chair of a newly established ethics oversight committee for one of the following:

1. Investment firm that offers advice and products to      public retirement funds
2. Hospital
3. Private university
4. State legislative body

Analyze three (3) philosophies addressed in the textbook (Chapters 1-7) that you believe should guide decisions. Analyze one (1) philosophy that you believe would be extremely detrimental for the organization to use in making decisions.

Write a four to five (4-5) page paper in which you:

1. Provide a rationale for selecting this organization,      explaining at least two (2) reasons the organization needs ethics      oversight.
2. Analyze the first philosophy, (Chapters 1-7),      discussing its proponents and two (2) major principles of the philosophy      and how they apply to decisions that will need to be made. 
3. Analyze the second philosophy, (Chapters 1-7),      discussing its proponents and two (2) major principles of the philosophy      and how they apply to decisions that will need to be made. 
4. Analyze the third philosophy, (Chapters 1-7),      discussing its proponents and two (2) major principles of the philosophy      and how they apply to decisions that will need to be made. 
5. Analyze a philosophy that would be detrimental,      (Chapters 1-7), discussing its proponents and two (2) major principles of      the philosophy and how they would be detrimental to decisions that will      need to be made. 
6. Provide at least five (5) credible, external academic      references (at least one (1) source for each criterion) to support your      view about the need for and use of these philosophies to make ethical      decisions for the organization. (Do not use such open sources as Wikipedia,      About, Ask.)

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

• Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font      (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references      must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for      any additional instructions.
• Include a cover page containing the title of the      assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title,      and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in      the required assignment page length.

This week, you will find three scholarly, peer-reviewed research articles on your topic. Remember that next week you will submit a paper on Cultural and/or Ethical perspectives of inquiry, so use this week’s assignment to prepare materials and collect information for that purpose.

Use articles that will help you explain and describe cultural and/or ethical, legal or regulatory issues related to your topic. You will analyze and evaluate these articles in your submission, which should include:

• A brief introductory paragraph
• Three separate paragraphs, one for each of the three articles, each presenting:
  • A brief 3–4 sentence summary of the article (use in-text citations)
  • An explanation as to what makes this source credible (in the WCU Library go to Research Guides > Research Basics > Evaluating Resources)
  • An explanation of why the article will be useful in addressing your problem or issue
• A brief conclusory paragraph
• An APA Style reference list on a separate page

Your paper should be 1–3 pages in length (including the References page). Adhere to APA Style throughout.

 

Week 2 Case Vignette Analysis #1

Throughout the course, various theories and concepts related to assessment of emergency and crisis situations will be presented. The purpose of this assignment is to provide an opportunity for learners to demonstrate the ability to analyze crisis and emergency situations, applying appropriate assessment, intervention, and treatment plan options in practical scenarios, articulating clear rationale for the decisions made.

To complete Case Vignette Analysis #1, assume you are in the role and case study scenario described below.

• ROLE: Mental Health Professional in a rural community with no behavioral health center, safe house, or in-place support systems.
• CASE STUDY: Carol has been your client for 4 sessions and recently disclosed the abusive nature of her 25-year marriage. She alleges her husband has struck her and she is fearful of his rage episodes. She also suspects that he is viewing child pornography on their computer, but has been unable to substantiate. They have a daughter with 2 granddaughters ages 6 and 4. Her husband is a well-respected businessman in the very small, geographically isolated community and frontier county of less than 2000 residents. He is also a Scout leader and buddies with the County Sheriff. The couple attends church semi-regularly, belonging to a dominant patriarchal religion in the area. She is unable to go to church authorities with her suspicions and complaints as is the expected practice, because the last visit to her religious counselors resulted in intensified abuse afterward and a reprimand by the religious leader for being a poor wife. Carol calls you at 10:00 pm one Friday night with terror in her voice and informs you she has left her husband, but knows he will come looking for her. Her personal funds are limited, and she is driving a high-visibility vehicle. From the panic noted in her call, there is little question that she feels she is in danger.

In responding to the case presented, implement the following:

• Provide your assessment using the ABCDE Assessment Model in the Collins text.
• Describe your detailed six-step, single-session crisis intervention using the intervention model.
• Outline your ongoing crisis management and intervention goals.

Include a minimum 7 to 8 pages, not including APA formatted required title and reference pages; submit APA style in-text citations throughout the work as well. 

The basic parts of a paper should also be included; these are the opening, introduction section, with a precise thesis statement, the body of the paper with clear, discernable headings formatted to APA style levels of heading where appropriate, and a conclusion that restates the thesis and summarizes the major points of the entire paper.
