Creating Online Quizzes

The testing and assessment process is often a struggle for educators. For many, finding the balance between a seemingly “hard” or “easy” question takes much practice. Furthermore, the development of question formats and stems can be a difficult concept to master. To aid in quiz development, nurse educators can use models such as The 3Cs(illustrated below) to focus more on the content of their questions and less on the actual construction. Nurse educators can also use prompts and templates provided at quiz development websites to assist quiz design. These websites can also help instructors easily administer quizzes in the online environment.

The 3Cs Model of Test Item Writing:

·         Content, concepts, and criterion. Use the content of the lesson as well as overarching concepts and nursing criterion (like NCLEX and other formal assessments) as a blueprint for your questions. In addition, consider the ideas and teachable moments that have occurred in the classroom or during clinical rotations.

·         Clarity and complexity. Be sure that your question stems are clear, straightforward, and use simple language. In addition, write your questions at the application or analysis level of Bloom’s Taxonomy. This will prompt students to move beyond basic comprehension and memorization.

·         Critique. Always go back and examine the questions that you have created. This process should be completed both before and after examinations. As with all teaching strategies, evaluation and revision is imperative to ensure the effectiveness of instruction.

 

Questions to be addressed on my paper:

1.       Review this week’s Learning Resources on developing multiple-choice quiz questions. How might you use the 3Cs and other best practices to craft your own quiz questions?

2.       Select one Lesson Plan (which is Pulmonary Edema) you will use as the focus of your online quiz. Then, craft three quiz questions (write your questions at the application or analysis level of Bloom’s Taxonomy) that are closely linked to the learning objectives and learning need of the lesson.

Learning Objectives:

a.       Explain how to recognize the clinical manifestations of patient with pulmonary edema

b.      Describe the treatment regimens of pulmonary edema

c.       Analyze  the priority nursing interventions for patients with pulmonary edema

d.      Create a concept map of pulmonary edema

3.       Brief description of one challenge that you experienced in crafting meaningful quiz questions and one challenge you experienced in using the technology platform. Briefly explain how you overcame each of these challenges.

4.       Explain whether you would use this technology to facilitate quiz development in a future learning environment and why.

Change Model Assignment

Assume you are the Sales and Marketing Director for Sea Treasures, a small group of well-known retail stores specializing in exotic sea life and high-end accessories for aquariums. The company has been in business for over 50 years, but the customer base is shrinking, sales are slow, and you are faced with reducing staff and closing stores. Sea Treasures will be out of business within a year if innovative and creative changes are not made quickly. After many months, you have finally been able to convince the owner that the only way to sustain the business and increase revenue is to create an Internet Website to sell the large inventory of aquarium decorator items (currently gathering dust in a costly warehouse) . This will be a short-term, small scale change. Six months later, you will expand the Website to sell live sea creatures such as tropical fish and small sea turtles online, which is a long-term, large-scale change.

You face many challenges in this transformational change initiative, beginning with strong employee resistance, new technology, and shipping methods. Many small businesses have been faced with these same issues, and have made the transition successfully. Consider the humble beginnings of Amazon, and look where they are today. Selecting the best change model for this business, and implementing it step by step provides the foundation for creating an exciting new company.

In 3 – 5 pages, explain which change model you would follow for the short-term change and which you would follow for the long-term change. Provide rationale for your decision and discuss the effects that these changes would have on the employees, managers, and executives within the organization. Include at least three references and follow standard APA formatting for your paper.

Your task for this project is to interview at least one manager or executive to learn about the institution’s or one of its team’s organizational behavior based on the topics discussed in this course. This interview may be in person, over the phone, via email, or in whatever manner is most conducive to you and the interviewee. Whichever method you select, you will need to have the opportunity to ask follow-up questions as necessary.

Ultimately, you will provide an extensive summary of the corporation’s/team’s current situation in regards to the organizational behavior topics you’ve selected to discuss. You will then evaluate the corporation/team and provide suggestions for improving their organizational behavior. This project may take the form of a paper, video-recording, infographic, or any other tool you feel can best present the information you’ve gathered and the solutions you are providing.

The mission of is to develop not only scholar-practitioners, but also to foster positive social change. This mission has great potential impact for students at any degree level, but, for the  student, it is particularly relevant. The research that you undertake, and the questions that you ask to “fill in the gaps” of what is known and what is not known can have authentic, far-reaching ramifications. Quality Indicator 6 in the Guide poses this question: “Does this project have [the] potential to [e]ffect positive social change?” The “An Annotated Outline” section within the Guide—your model for completing your own draft—includes a section titled “Significance” that asks, “How might the potential findings lead to positive social change?” The tenets of positive social change are deeply embedded, and your own research will continue to contribute to that tradition.

With consideration to this clear commitment, think about your area of interest and your research questions. How does your research topic contribute to positive social change? Additional consideration of this question at this point might further fuel your capstone efforts.

Post a brief description of your capstone topic and an explanation of the purpose of your study. Explain how your  research might effect social change. Be specific and use examples to illustrate your explanation.
