The two artifacts I chose was Bob Dylan’s 1963 song ”Blowin’ In The Wind” and Green Day’s

2004 song ”American Idiot”. A common theme throughout both these songs is that they discuss

protests. In ”Blowin’ In The Wind” Bob Dylan peacefully asks questions about why the world is the way it is whereas Green Day’s song “American Idiot” shares their rage with the issues

surrounding America.

Analyze your two chosen artifacts. Then, identify a common theme and compare your examples to one another as expressions of the same theme in different cultural artifacts. To document your analysis and research, you will develop a reference list. In preparation for the presentation you will develop in the final two modules of the course, you will also consider how you would present your research to a specific audience. 

Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed: 

• Describe the cultural artifacts that you chose. Consider questions such as these in your response: What is the name or title of the artifact? Who is the author or artist? What is the date or time period when the artifact was created? What is the cultural location or physical setting of the artifact? In addition, you could consider including a photograph or image of each cultural artifact, if they are visual artifacts.
   
• Identify at least one common theme that will serve as the framework of your exploration document. How is the theme expressed in your artifacts?
   
• Explain how the theme you identified is related to your personal experience. For instance, you could discuss how the expression of the theme in your
  cultural artifacts is connected to you personally.
   
• Discuss a profession that could be impacted by the theme you identified. In other words, how is the theme you identified related to professional experiences? How could a working knowledge of the humanities be useful in this field?
   
• Describe at least three humanities resources that you could use to investigate your theme and artifacts. Your sources must be relevant to your theme and of an appropriate academic nature. In your description, consider questions such as the following: What are the similarities and differences in the content of your sources? What makes them appropriate and relevant for investigating your issue? What was your thought process when you were searching for sources? How did you make choices? Did you encounter any obstacles and, if so, how did you overcome them? If you did not, why do you think it was so easy to find what you needed?
   
• Use the humanities resources that you selected to research your theme and cultural artifacts, making sure that you cite your sources. Based on your research, do the following:
   

A. Discuss the relationship between each cultural artifact and its historical context. In other words, what were the circumstances under which each artifact was created? 

• Explain the similarities and differences that you observe in the cultural artifacts you selected, in relation to the theme. For instance, do the artifacts contain any symbolism? If so, how are the symbols both similar and different? What do the symbols tell you about each artifact?
   
• Discuss the medium—such as literature, music, or sculpture—through which your cultural artifacts were created. For instance, how did the creator or creators of each artifact use the medium to convey something about the meaning of the artifact?
   
• Based on your research, develop a thesis statement that conveys the claim you plan to make about your theme and artifacts. Your thesis statement should be clear, specific, and arguable.
   
• Based on your research, identify an audience that would be interested in your theme and thesis statement. For example, who would benefit most from hearing your message?
   
• Describe how and why you can tailor your message to your audience, providing specific examples based on your research. For example, will your audience understand the terminology and principles used by humanities scholars, or will you need to explain these? How will you communicate effectively with your audience?
   
• Provide a reference list that includes all of the humanities resources you used to research your artifacts, theme, and thesis statement. Ensure that your list is formatted according to current APA guidelines (or another format with instructor permission).
   

We have said that managers, supervisors, and employees all have individual responsibilities for safety and need to be held accountable. What, then, do you think is the role of safety professionals? How should they be held accountable? What has been your observation or experience in this regard as a safety professional or while dealing with safety professionals?

I too believe that safety professionals should be held accountable, at least to a point for the safety of all employees of an organization. Honestly, that is their job, so, they should share a pretty good amount of the fallout when there is an incident. The very most basic function of any safety professional working for any organization is to periodically walk the Jobsite and audit it for hazards and/or unsafe work practices. When that safety professionals find these hazards and/or unsafe work practices, it is the safety professionals’ responsibility to immediately take action and correct those situations immediately. Now, with that said, how often is “periodically”… Well, that is a matter of opinion. In my opinion, this should be conducted multiple times daily if possible. I understand that many times the safety professional for an organization gets an incredible amount of work piled upon him/her, but, I still believe that these “walk-downs” need to be made a priority. This process will take identifying many hazards/unsafe work practices long before they become a problem and can be addressed for training, etc… to ensure that they don’t occur again. 

With all of that said, I believe that any safety professional that isn’t being proactive in the organization by being hands-on in hazard identification and mitigation/elimination processes should be held accountable per the organization’s punitive actions for employees who don’t perform their work as directed.

• Reveal how the song promoted social awareness and social change. Include other forms of popular culture that have also spurred social movements- choose a song, current event, news event or video of your choice that has influenced a social movement today. (1 paragraph of 5-7 sentences)
• Identify which social movement the song is associated with and include another song or songs that have motivated social movements or helped to create social change. Explain at least one of these songs and the problem(s) that it addressed. Be creative, the song can be old or new, about problems such as wars, women rights, gun control, religious expression, race, social inequality, etc. (1 paragraph, 5-7 sentences in length)
• Conclusion (1 paragraph, 5-7 sentences in length)- What are your thoughts about the issue/social movement you discussed
