Watercolor painting is popular because the materials are simple and cleaning up is easy, but it can be challenging because the artist must plan ahead. The key to making a good watercolor is to anticipate where the white areas will be because once painted, the color cannot be removed. The artist leaves the white paper as the highlights and layers more in the darker areas.

Part 1 Directions – Painting:

Using a simple, inexpensive watercolor kit and a piece of watercolor paper (a heavy textured paper), paint an apple following this tutorial:

• You will not receive credit for this portion of the assignment if you do not attach the pictures of your process. You are not being graded on “how good it is”. Your grade is based on your effort and following the video tutorial.
• Write your name and class reference number on each image.
• Take pictures and scan and attach it to your submission.
  1. Take a picture of your initial sketch
  2. Take a picture in the middle of the process
  3. Take a picture of the completed assignment

Part 2 Directions – Photography:

1. Choose five of the photographic categories from this chapter (e.g. portrait, snapshot, photojournalism, abstraction, photomontage).
2. Using a cell phone or digital camera and/or iPad, take a photograph corresponding to each of your chosen categories.
3. Label your photos (Change file name if needed) and upload your chosen photographs with an explanation of how each one relates to the relevant category.

Part 3 Directions – Reflection:

Answer the following questions:

Part 1 – Painting

1. What do you notice when you paint over a section that was previously painted?
2. What happens when you moisten the paper, then paint?
3. Were you happy with the final result? Why? Why not?

Part 2 – Photography

1. Describe each of the 5 images
2. Do I have a strong composition?
3. What specific editing did I do to the images?
4. How well did I edit my photographs?
5. What would I do differently if I shot this assignment again?

Part 3

1. Which activity did you prefer, painting or photography. Why?
2. How did this assignment help to reinforce concepts in this module? Be sure to refer to required readings and/or supplementary material in your response and include citations when appropriate.

 

Papers should be 1½ – 2 pages in length. You must divide papers into the following three sections:

• Summary of Article (~1/2 page)-What were the important findings from the article?
• Implications for Educational Leadership (~1/2 page) – What does this article mean for educational leaders? How could it inform their work?
• Personal Reflections/Reactions (~1/2 page) – What are your thoughts on the article?

You must have a reference page. Using quality articles from top journals will positively affect the quality of your summary and thus your grade.

Please respond to (only) of the following questions in a carefully written essay of 3-4 pages.  Your essay should have a formal introduction, body, and conclusion.  

Before writing the paper you should read Plato’s Cave, The Apology, and view our class film.  Also, search the Web to see many versions of the Cave.

1.  Identify and describe the four main parts of Plato’s

Cave.  Show how each part has relevance to your life.  Be very specific about places, dates, and people.

2.  What are the three most important themes in Plato’s account of the interior of the Cave?  Please identify and describe with quotations from the text.  Finally, show how each of these themes is relevant to life today.

3.  Find at least four drawings of the Cave—not counting the ones we did in class which are masterpieces and have few faults.   Identify three aspects of Plato’s Cave as described in Republic VII that are seldom if ever included in the drawings that one sees.  Why do you think these aspects are omitted?

5. Extra-credit.  Draw a scene from the Life of Socrates as we have studied it so far in this class.  Here is what someone else a while back submitted:

  

Your progress report should be 1-3 pages in length and include the following three major elements: 

PART I. A well-written paragraph that states in detail what your topic is. Be sure to clearly link your topic to both technology and society/societal trends.

PART II. A well-written paragraph that identifies the type of presentation you plan to give (e.g. slideshow, written materials, podcast, YouTube, etc.). Your presentation should be creative, engaging, and informative. Remember that in the last week of class, YOU become the teachers. Think about your audience and how to present material in an interesting and clear manner.

PART III. A preliminary outline that shows what will you address in your presentation. You may provide an actual outline, or describe in words the approach you will take. Use the rubric for the final presentation to help you structure your outline. Your outline and presentation should include the following components:

· Define your topic, linking it to technology and society

· Trace the history of your topic

· Describe how your topic compares to at least one other culture

· Identify relevant policies related to your topic

· Discuss future trends related to your topic
