“A candidate ignores the issues of disabled people at his own peril…The disability movement’s strength…of 35 to 43 million people with disabilities—was also a weakness. The disability rights movement spanned a splintered universe. There are hundreds of different disabilities, and each group tended to see its issues in relation to its specific disability…The ADA brought this fragmented population together in a fight against discrimination…To win passage of the ADA, disabled people had to forgo historic alliances not only among different disability groups and politicians but with the professionals who had cared for them for so long…Bob Kafka, a protest veteran and paraplegic who used a wheelchair, brought thirty militant activists, all disabled and all members of American Disabled for Accessible Public Transit, or ADAPT. They came to disrupt Congress with protests, sit-ins, and other acts of civil disobedience…The point was to force a confrontation to show that disabled people…cared deeply enough to go to jail for their rights…As Kafka sees it, forcing confrontation and getting arrested gave disabled people a sense of empowerment after lives of dependency…With the support of a powerful coalition of disabled people and their families, politicians, and disability professionals, the ADA moved swiftly through Congress. B.  Research the topics of disability rights (this includes disability as a social movement, advocacy, and governmental support programs) and find an article of particular interest to you. Presentation of Assignments

When submitting assignments it is advised that all papers be stapled together. Not doing so will attract a 20% deduction of points for that particular assignment. All projects are expected to be presented in a logical and reader friendly fashion i.e. with a table of contents. Not doing so will attract a 10% deduction of points on your projects.

Academic Integrity

It should be clear that copying even one sentence or unique sentence fragment without properly quoting and citing is plagiarism.  Likewise, cutting and pasting various sentence fragments from various authors to form a paragraph is also plagiarism unless each fragment is quoted and cited.  To clearly not be plagiarism, the paragraph would have to be comprised of original thoughts and words (words that might paraphrase other’s work, but that work would have to be cited as necessary).

 

Legal issues such as fair use and other copyright issues overlap with academic integrity issues but are not the same.  A person could cite and quote correctly, thereby not committing plagiarism, but violate copyright laws because the person used work without permission or too much of it was used. Academic integrity is much more than not plagiarizing.  Academic integrity also encompasses cheating, excessive collaboration, and other issues.  Most importantly, academic integrity should not be viewed as a list of prohibitions but a rather as a proper mind set to do one’s own work and give credit to others as appropriate.  To this end, academic integrity encompasses how much work you use of another (similar to fair use laws).  Many universities and associations believe that using more than 5-10% of other’s work in your document (even if quoted and cited correctly) is too much; that you haven’t done enough original work.  ISU subscribes to Turnitinwhich checks how much of your work is original.  This is not just used to check for plagiarism but also for originality.  Turnitin will be used in this course.

Using the attached paper, please prepare a powerpoint that does the following. This powerpoint is a continuation of the one posted, please add up to 15 slides to the one posted. 

1. The intent of the SLP is for you to transform the theoretical and general aspects as covered and based in each module’s case paper, to a “Board-meeting” presentation.
2. The SLP (like the cases) is a cumulative project that will demonstrate the culmination of your understanding and your ability to identify the key points of your case work, and transform them into relevant slides utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint software (PPT).
3. Remember that the presentation will be submitted to the “MHA599 Consulting Team” (MHA599CT) board of directors at their bi-weekly board meeting, so presentation needs to be directed to this executive audience.
4. I am confident that you will enjoy developing this project, and hone your business presentation skills in the process.

Guidelines for Effective PowerPoint Presentations

1. Do not attempt to dazzle your audience with psychedelic visual effects, multi colors, and eye-boggling animations.
2. Do not just copy and paste your case text into the slides.
3. Focus on the content and what message you want to get across to the board.
4. Think Audience – Ensure that all slides are viewable (i.e., relevant text in viewable font size.)
5. “one picture is worth a thousand words” – include graphs, diagrams, etc., as appropriate.
6. Do not use all caps except for titles.
7. Keep the background consistent and subtle.
8. Use only enough text when using charts or graphs to explain; clearly label the graphic.
9. Keep the design clean and uncluttered. Leave empty space around the text and graphics.
10. Check the spelling and grammar.

SLP – Organization

1. The number of slides per module should be about 10-15.
2. Prepare and submit the sectional/modular slides for each module, adding the preceding ones (i.e., in Module 2 you will combine and submit sections 1 and 2, and so on.
3. Amend each section per the feedback you will get from your instructor.
4. Finally, you will aggregate all sections into one complete and comprehensive PPT following the SLP framework detailed below, and submit together by the due date of Module 4.As stated in the course and modular outcomes, you are expected to demonstrate critical thinking and a solid analytical and theoretical knowledge of all previous courses in the program.

Furthermore, emphasis should be inputted on applying what you already know to the task of developing an individual project that reflects synthesis, integration, and real-life application (action plans).

As the environment is of a real-life project team, you will be assessed as to how well you present your work to your company and peers (writing and presentations).

Feedback and comments from your instructor and peers should be implemented and early recommendations adjusted accordingly.
