HA415 Unit 1 Discussion 2 and 3

In two diffetent paragrah give your opinion to  Patricia Fonseca and  Coral Karpinski

Hi Everyone,

Federalism is the system of government with power divided between state and nation.  It is important to keep our society controlled, safe, healthy, and protect our rights. The government creates laws which companies need to follow.  So, even health care is impacted by these laws, some policies have been created specifically for health care. Medicare and Medicaid are federal health care programs and with these come set rules, such as, who is eligible for the coverage. If someone is denied coverage and believe they are wrongfully denied coverage they can go to court and have the judge rule on the case.

Policymakers are government members responsible for making new rules, policy, laws, and clearly defining their intent. Policymakers can also be private or public figures with authority to make important decisions to keep order within an organization as setting rules.

In the United States of America, our system is made up of the legislative, executive, or judicial branches of government (Teitelbaum, p. 11). Within these branches are policymakers which control taxes, control commerce, pay debts, the general welfare of the public, and even declare war (Teitelbaum, p. 13).

Thanks,

Patricia

I believe the best way to start comparing between what is a leader and what is management should start with a statement by William Arruda who states, “A leader is someone who creates visions and management creates goals.” (Arruda, 2016) When it comes to deciding which role is important in the health care organization, I believe there isn’t a right or wrong answer. Leaders are someone you can rely on to have an open mind, be self-humble and will be in it for the long-haul. Whereas management is someone who sticks to the plan, they don’t try to move outside what they consider the normal operation, they are looking for the short-term solution instead of the long-term opportunities. In the healthcare field, there are times where problems arise, and we hope for a solution as quickly as possible but what if we took a few extra moments to create a result that prevented the problem from reoccurring.

Leadership the people who drive us to become more than who we are, this is the person in the healthcare organization that wants to see a team succeed and knows that having a high-function team will accomplish more. As a leader, you know your role and the objectives or results that you face when trying to change things within a system that is already functioning properly. This is what makes leaders unique and allows them the ability to stand out in the crowd instead of hiding in the shadows. When asked why we need leaders in the healthcare operations, my answer would be that leaders take risks, they grow personally and coach their teams to victory. For example, having a leader who is right next to you in the front lines offering their support helps you not only grow as an individual but also helps to build trust and mutual respect for your leader. This will, in the end, help to maintain a solid relationship for years to come and having a productive leader will encourage others around to want to work harder, more efficient and produce higher quality results.

Management in the healthcare organization, as we learn the difference between them and leaders you would almost feel as if leaders are the alpha. That is not true management is just as important as leaders they are the constant, the ones who play by the book, they are the least likely to take a risk to potentially avoid problems. Having strong management can make the not so great qualities of a manager the best parts about them. As a manager in the healthcare field myself and reading about management and how they are so stale and almost what I would consider washed-up. You begin to dig deeper and investigate the question of why we need management in the healthcare organization. We need them because they are the constant support for the organization, they rely on proven skills, quick results even if there not long-term. We need management in healthcare, they are the ones who can make the hard choices, deal with unresolved issues, even if their ways are not ever outside of the book sometimes, we need that structure to remember us who we are doing this all for.

In conclusion, when making a choice on which role we need more in the healthcare solution I would choose both. I believe we need both roles in the healthcare field because we need a leader who is willing to get into the weeds with us, have someone we trust and can grow with throughout the organization. On the other hand, we need management as well, we need the person who lays down the law and follows it word for word. If you didn’t have both these roles, I feel as if you wouldn’t have a productive balancing system. Could you imagine having two leaders who each had their vision, didn’t follow the strict policies and took risks without seeing the consequence? This is where a manager would come in, they can redirect a situation by following the policy and sticking with what works and controlling the risks that leaders take. In the healthcare field, there are so many different personalities and situations that will arise that having two separate yet important roles in this field can later benefit the organization as a whole unit instead of individual parts.
