What was the name of the first computer network?
a) Who created this network
The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network popularly known as ARPANET was the first-ever computer network that was created. It was first started designing by a man in 1949 named Paul Baran. It was started in the later part of 1960. It was first funded by the United States defense organization and was designed on packet switching model to send and receive the packets of data (Computer Hope, 2017).
Originally it was financially supported by Advanced Research Projects Agency but currently it is financially aided by DRAPA. Previously universities and research institutions used ARPANET for their projects. Initially, it contains four interface message processors (IMPs) at university of California, Los Angeles. Stanford Research Institutes Research The center has NLS Hypertext System with an SDS 940 which ran NLS which was the first host (Deffree, 2019).
When did this network got established?
Explain one of the major disadvantages of this network at its initial stage
The internet began in military computers in the Pentagon called Arpanet in 1969. The theory continues to prescribe that the framework was proposed to bear a nuclear attack. Hold up as the time and detect the Internet was envisioned. An endeavor that began in the Pentagon that year, called Arpanet, delivered the Internet shows sooner or later (during the 1970s), yet 1969 was not the Internet’s beginnings. Persevering through a nuclear attack was building overall correspondences organize.
As the technology was relatively new and was one of its kinds at that period of time, it had some disadvantages. When the design of the technology was implemented and when the first packet was switched between two computer systems, the whole network was crashed because of the faults in the network(Comer, 1988).With this early network system, connecting the devices to the network was a very complex and difficult process. The first successful establishment of this ARPANET technology took place in the last months of 1969. Due to internet connectivity and other dependable factors, it is better to use the single authentication to access the resources.
(3) What is the TCP?
Who created TCP?
The TCP was created by one of the group members who participated in building the first computer network. Vinton Gary Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn were the men behind the TCP creation. Both these men were assigned to work on the development of networking technology by one prominent organization which is investing in information and communication technology (Spider, 1990). The transmission protocol was started with four goals like Network Connectivity, Distribution, Error recovery and Black box design. Due to more evolved techniques in the form of distribution can make a big effective change compared to the system design and its analogy in the market with more extensions on the system(Comer, 1988).
(b) When did it got implemented
Ellingwood (2014) states that the first version of TCP was first implemented in 1973. It is used to establish consistent connections and implemented in the transport layer of the IP/TCP method. TCP protocol compresses data into packets, then it forwards to the remote connection model through the lower layer. It checks for the errors and asks for the correction and this sends the logical piece to application layer.
(4) What is IP?
When did it got implemented
Comer (1988) states that the IP commonly known as Internet Protocol Suite is a group of protocols used in the communication technology. The main aim of these protocols is to transmit the data packets between two systems. Each IP has the header IP address that is different from the device IP address. The introduction of TCP and IP protocols has helped in the early transmission of data between two computer systems which later developed and advanced rapidly.
Every system has a different IP address assigned depending on the type of network they are connected to and vice versa. The internet protocol provides data transfer, addressing, routing and fragmentation. IP is present at the network layer and it receives and sends the data blocks from upper layers called the datagrams. It varies due to many devices connected to the system from an endpoint where each packet can stay wide up in the network (Deffree, n.d).
(5) How did the implementation of TCP/IP revolutionize communication technology?
This invention made the information sharing very easy and convenient which gave birth to the recent high-speed sharing of the data. These protocols have made internet connectivity easy. The efficient secure technology is developed using these protocols which were used in defense organizations to securely communicate with each other. These protocols help the direct connection between host to host efficiently without being concerned about the hijacking by the hackers(Feinler et al., 1985).
Many network-oriented critical problems developed when the early computer networks were formed were cleared using these protocols. The connectivity between the individuals or any organization can be made using the protocols that use an open network protocol suite. The TCP/IP is more abstract and fluid, it is very easy to implement and it allowed the network layers to work efficiently. The TCP/IP have made the foundation of the rapid development of the communication technology (Featherly, 2016).
