Strategic management involves all the activities of the top management of any company. They are responsible for taking decisions that are in line with the goals of the company. They are also responsible for ensuring that everything regarding the company is running as smoothly as possible (Cameron, 2014). They decide what actions to take in each scenario and whether the business requires some form of change or not. Managers in an organization are responsible for their various departments. They are in charge of the employees and the work processes that are expected to happen in the department that they are in charge of (Besanko et al, 2012). They are responsible for keeping the employees motivated at all times as well as ensuring that they are doing what they are meant to be doing at any point in time. Therefore, this is to say that they are responsible for ensuring that things are running as smoothly as possible and that their activities are coordinated with those of the other departments within the organization (Fitzsimmons, 2014). Operations managers, on the other hand, are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the various organizations within the company are working as efficiently as possible. He or she has to ensure that the processes are working at the correct time and the various activities within the companies are working in a coordinated manner to produce the desired effects (Krajewski, 2013).
As an IT professional, I would ensure that all the related hierarchies are working as efficiently as possible through technology. For instance, since the manager handle a large number of activities at any given time, a system that would document all the activities and one that would avail all the files that they need at a go would be very beneficial for an operations manager. A system that enables a human resources manager to manage all the employees at a go would also be a time-saver and would enable him or her to run his or her operations efficiently.
