Write a short (150-200 words) audience analysis describing who you think the author/speaker of your source text is trying to reach. (Hot tip: don’t say “everyone” or “the public” or “Americans.”) You might do some quick research on the venue (publication? TED talk?) and look for clues inside the text. What style does the speaker use, and what type of response does it create? Are they writing for a community of experts or people with little exposure to the issue? Are they writing to convince, change minds, or deepen the engagement of a like-minded audience? As always, use specific evidence from the text.
