Reading question 3: Concluding The Prince chapter 18 to finish

Format: two single-spaced, type-written paragraphs

Machiavelli believes that rulers should have “character,” and by this he means that they should be wise, shrewd and resolute. But Machiavelli also knows that at the end of the day, their power is limited. In particular, leaders must be acutely aware of context and circumstance. When they are vigilant and perceptive, and when they have a grasp of the limitations of their power, they can adapt their methods accordingly.

Your task in this assignment is to discuss some of the situations Machiavelli records in which leaders’ or rulers’ powers of observation allowed them to deal effectively with adversity, and also those situations in which rulers’ powers failed them. Be sure to use many example from the text and cite them with page numbers.
