Describe the advertisement that you chose.
The advertisement I chose was the charmin ultra soft commercial. It shows a family of cuddly big bears that are given human like characteristics to make it appealing and persuasive to the viewers. The commercial shows the bears can’t keep their claws off the paper because of how soft it is. It also sells the toilet paper to the viewers by explaining that you don’t have to use so much of it.
Describe where you saw ethos, pathos, and/or logos in action. Use specific examples of words/images within the advertisement. (You may not see all three within the advertisement).
Pathos is shown by using the cuddly bear with human characteristics to appeal to the viewers emotions. Ethos was seen when the author used the bears to convince the viewers that the toilet paper is strong enough to be used by a family of bears but soft enough for them to cuddle with. The home like setting also made it appealing.
Describe how ethos, pathos, and/or logos were used to persuade. How effective were they in persuading you?
Ethos and pathos were used to persuade the viewers that the toilet paper is soft and absorbent. I found the commercial to be cute and effective. The commercial showed that the paper brand is soft and more absorbent than other leading brands. It compared it to other leading brand showing that the same 200 sheets that charmin uses is more absorbent and softer.
What does the use of ethos, pathos, and/or logos tell you about the audience for this product/service?
This commercial targets family oriented audience. Its shows that caring and loving people buy this product for their family

It starts out with them cuddling and the woman petting her dog. It goes on and reverses in time showing different phases in the woman’s life with the dog. It goes all the way back to when she is a little girl and the dog is a puppy. There are clips of her with her parents at milestone moments and in the background there is a Chevy SUV. It ends with the quote, “A best friend’s for life journey.” This makes a connection between the dog and the chevy. Where the dog is a man’s best friend, or in this cases that woman’s best friend. The chevy SUV is also present throughout the woman’s life as is the dog, going back to the best friend’s for life’s journey. The audience for this advertisement is definitely family oriented people. It shows the mom and dad during these milestone moments in the woman’s life driving the Chevy. This speaks to ethos, by showing the dad driving the car. Presumably the dad would want to drive something safe for his family and something reliable. It also shows the dad teaching his daughter how to drive the care, which would show that it is a trusted safe car for the teenager. It also plays to logos when showing the car throughout the years with the family, making the connection that the car is reliable and dependable for the family throughout the years. There is also so many ways that this ad sways the audience emotionally through pathos. It shows a young woman with her dog throughout the years with her family at important moments. The dog is also old and grey and it goes back in time to when the dog and the woman were a puppy and young girl. The family oriented audience can definitely identify with this ad. It effectively shows that the Chevy is a reliable form of transpo
