· Predict how industry changes will require you to expand your learning and domain knowledge.

Outcome 5 ePortfolio Page Sunday 11/4/18

Identify an artifact related to Outcome 5:    Apply effective communication skills and strategies in interactions with multidisciplinary and multi-facility professionals.

Post the artifact on the ePortfolio page for Outcome 5, along with a reflection that addresses the following:

Situation: Explain the assignment or activity.
Effect: Why did you choose this artifact to demonstrate the outcome? What impact did the assignment/activity have on you and how does it demonstrate your competence or knowledge?
Learning: What did you learn from the experience? What can you now do as a result and/or how will it inform your practice in the future?
Looking Ahead: What do you still need to learn? What is happening in the industry that will require you to expand you learning in this area or learn something new? Find at least one reputable article or resource published within the last 2 years that is related to the outcome or your artifact.  Cite any sources you use in APA style.

How you format your ePortfolio page for Outcome 5 is up to you, however, the page must be clearly labeled with the outcome, the artifact must be embedded on the page, and you must clearly label and reflect on each of the components described above (Situation, Effect, Learning, Looking ahead). Keep in mind this may be viewed by other professionals, so design your page in a way that will most effectively showcase your skills and knowledge. There are no length requirements for the reflection, just be sure you reflect deeply on each component to demonstrate your critical thinking skills and professional skills, knowledge, growth and development. When you submit this assignment, simply include a link to your portfolio and it will be reviewed in the Google site.

After watching the video, discuss the variety of career services that you think would be beneficial to an upcoming HIM graduate. Explain how you plan to use Career Services to support you as you approach graduation.

There is several services that are available thru this service that will benefit new students and existing students.

There are Career Specialist here to help you establish work flow and professional inquires. The student portal is available 24/7 to help you. As a HIM graduate any and all inquires can be answer for you, if not the will check and get back with you. There are several topics as follow:

1. How to construct a resumes or cover letter. If you do not feel comfortable with the resume or cover letter, they will scan thru your work and let you know where corrections need to be done.

2. The have a job listing board, that you can search to find a position in the title search availability. Put in the position you are looking for and job board will list by title and where the job position is located.

3. Events- listing of events in your area, that you can sign on, to register to attend such as orientation, interview appointments, webinars. This can also be found under your community tab too! Your community tab you can also communicate with other student in the community.

4. Career information- this portal will help you outline a resume or cover letter, to perspective employers.

In my HI 305 Management of Health Information course, we have be working in the Career Network and services since week 5. A class assignment was to upload your resume to the portal and a career services staff member would provide tips on improve it. This week we were asked to upload a cover letter for the same purpose. I find the career portal and advisors to be very instrumental to any PG graduate, it provides a great resource for networking and finding leads and job postings. And an added benefit is having a career advice assisting you with your resume for free.

I have been updating and reading the open forum on the career portal and I plan to continue using it while it’s available to me.

Step One: Write a 2-3 page (not counting title and reference page), APA formatted paper with 2 references that includes, but is not limited to, the following items:

1. Why are organizations moving toward implementation of data warehouses? What are the benefits of data warehouses?

2. What issues need to be considered by an organization before and during data warehouse development?

Your facility is developing a data warehouse and you have been asked to determine which of your current systems should be included in the warehouse.  The systems administrator has indicated that the plan is to use this data warehouse for business, research, and clinical data analysis. Have you ever gone online to search for a journal article on a specific topic? It is amazing to see the large number of journals that are available in the health care field. When you view the library in its entirety, you are viewing untapped data. Until you actually research for your particular topic, there is little structure. Once you have narrowed it down, you have information and once you apply the information, you have knowledge. Eventually, after thoughtful research and diligent practice, you reach the level of wisdom—knowledge applied in meaningful ways.

Are there areas in your practice that you believe should be more fully explored? The central aims of nursing informatics are to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom. This continuum represents the overarching structure of nursing informatics. In this Assignment, you develop a research question relevant to your practice area and relate how you would work through the progression from data to information, knowledge, and wisdom.

To prepare:

·        Review the information in Figure 6-2 in Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge.

·        Develop a clinical question related to your area of practice that you would like to explore.

·        Consider what you currently know about this topic. What additional information would you need to answer the question?

·        Using the continuum of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom, determine how you would go about researching your question.

o   Explore the available databases in the Walden Library. Identify which of these databases you would use to find the information or data you need.

o   Once you have identified useful databases, how would you go about finding the most relevant articles and information?

o   Consider how you would extract the relevant information from the articles.

o   How would you take the information and organize it in a way that was useful? How could you take the step from simply having useful knowledge to gaining wisdom?

To complete:

Write a 3- to 4-page paper that addresses the following:

·        Summarize the question you developed, and then relate how you would work through the four steps of the data, information, knowledge, wisdom continuum. Be specific.

o   Identify the databases and search words you would use.

o   Relate how you would take the information gleaned and turn it into useable knowledge.

·        Can informatics be used to gain wisdom? Describe how you would progress from simply having useful knowledge to the wisdom to make decisions about the information you have found during your database search.

Reminder: The School of Nursing requires that all papers submitted include a title page, introduction, summary, and references, in APA format
